Gisla Cemetery, the final resting of "Donald Morrison – The Outlaw of Megantic" and hundreds of Lewis settlers and descendants.
Proud Scottish (Isle of Lewis) immigrants settle in Quebec’s Eastern Townships around 1840. Donald Morrison, born in 1858, heads west to work as a rancher but returns home to find his family farm lost to a legal trick. Fighting for justice, he becomes an outlaw, evading capture for over a year with local support. A deadly showdown leads to his arrest and an 18-year prison sentence. In 1894, weakened by hunger strike, he is released—only to die days later. Buried in Gisla Cemetery, Donald Morrison remains a symbol of defiance and Scottish resilience. He was known as Canada's Rob Roy.
