25-Year Anniversary Edition

A Musical Tribute to the Lewis Settlers of Bruce County
The Silent Ones is a deeply moving musical tribute to the Lewis Settlers—109 families forced from their homes during the Highland Clearances of 1851. Evicted from the Isle of Lewis by landlord James Matheson, they crossed the Atlantic and began anew in the backwoods of Bruce County, Ontario. Their story is one of loss, endurance, and the quiet strength of a people who refused to let their culture die.
Created by Angus Macleod, a direct descendant of those settlers, this 64-minute CD weaves traditional Gaelic melodies, narration, and modern instrumentation to bring their journey to life. Recorded on the very land first cleared by his great-grandfather, it is both a personal and historical homage—filled with emotion, memory, and ancestral echoes. The music features Highland pipes, fiddle, dulcimer, and haunting vocals, with narration connecting each track like footsteps across generations.
From windswept ruins in Lewis to the moss-covered gravestones of the Lewis Cemetery in Huron Township, The Silent Ones reaches across time. It speaks to the legacy of a displaced people who brought their language, faith, and spirit to a new world—planting roots that still whisper in the streams, groves, and fields they once called home.
